SHE Manager

The SHE Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for the site’s Safety, Health, Environmental, Security, and Emergency Response programs within a complex chemical manufacturing environment. This position drives continuous improvement in SHE performance, maintains compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, and strengthens a culture that embeds safe, environmentally responsible operations throughout the organization. The role supports a highly regulated operation involving PSM/RMP-covered processes, highly hazardous chemicals, environmental permitting, industrial hygiene, emergency response, and site security.

• Provide overall leadership and direction for site Safety, Health, Environmental, Security, and Emergency Response programs.
• Drive continuous improvement in safety performance by establishing metrics, analyzing trends, identifying risk, and implementing corrective actions.
• Champion process safety and occupational safety expectations throughout manufacturing, maintenance, engineering, and support organizations.
• Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, PSM/RMP, environmental, industrial hygiene, and other federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
• Maintain effective systems, procedures, and internal auditing processes to verify regulatory and company SHE compliance.
• Lead and strengthen the site's safety culture through visible leadership, employee engagement, coaching, and accountability.
• Oversee incident investigations and ensure appropriate root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and recurrence prevention.
• Establish and monitor SHE performance indicators and use operating data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
• Lead environmental compliance, including air, water, waste, landfill, permitting, regulatory reporting, and environmental monitoring.
• Monitor regulatory developments and assess the potential impact of proposed changes on plant operations.
• Manage industrial hygiene programs and ensure appropriate occupational health and regulatory compliance.
• Maintain effective injury and illness case-management processes, including emergency and off-hours response.
• Provide leadership for site emergency preparedness and response, including drills, exercises, training, and coordination with local emergency-management, fire, and law-enforcement agencies.
• Oversee site security programs and contracted security resources while maintaining compliance with applicable company and governmental requirements.
• Partner closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, and other plant functions to identify and manage SHE risks associated with manufacturing processes and equipment.
• Serve as a key interface with regulatory agencies for permitting, reporting, inspections, and release notifications.
• Lead, coach, and develop the SHE organization, including performance management, succession planning, employee development, and resource allocation.
• Manage SHE-related budgets, contract services, and cost-control activities.

• Bachelor’s degree required; Safety, Environmental, Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of related experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Previous supervisory or management experience with demonstrated ability to lead technical SHE professionals.
• Strong experience supporting chemical processing, petrochemical, refining, specialty chemical, or another highly regulated process manufacturing environment.
• Strong working knowledge of occupational safety, environmental compliance, process safety, industrial hygiene, emergency response, and risk-management practices.
• Working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting chemical manufacturing operations.
• Demonstrated experience working with PSM/RMP-regulated processes and highly hazardous chemicals.
• Experience interacting with regulatory agencies and managing environmental permitting, reporting, audits, and inspections.
• Demonstrated ability to lead incident investigations, identify root causes, and drive corrective actions through completion.
• Strong leadership, communication, influencing, and decision-making skills with the ability to work effectively across Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and senior leadership.
• Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change and continuously improve SHE culture and performance.
• Strong planning, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Ability to develop personnel, establish accountability, and build a high-performing SHE organization.
• Professional safety or environmental certification is a plus
