Mechanical Reliability Specialist

The Mechanical Reliability Specialist is a hands-on technical role responsible for improving the reliability, availability, and performance of mechanical and rotating equipment within a large, PSM-regulated chemical manufacturing complex. This position provides technical expertise in the installation, troubleshooting, inspection, repair, and ongoing reliability improvement of critical rotating equipment, including pumps, compressors, and rotary blowers. The specialist will work closely with Maintenance, Reliability, Engineering, and Operations to identify equipment issues, eliminate recurring failures, and improve asset performance.

• Provide technical expertise for troubleshooting, inspecting, repairing, and maintaining industrial mechanical and rotating equipment, including pumps, compressors, and rotary blowers.
• Support preventive and predictive maintenance programs to improve equipment reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.
• Utilize predictive maintenance technologies, including vibration analysis, infrared thermography, and oil analysis, to identify developing equipment problems.
• Apply precision maintenance practices, including proper lubrication, equipment installation, and precision alignment.
• Perform and support precision alignment of rotating equipment using laser alignment systems and dial indicators.
• Utilize precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators, to evaluate equipment condition and tolerances.
• Lead and participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) activities involving equipment failures and recurring reliability issues.
• Develop corrective actions and reliability improvements based on equipment history, condition monitoring, and failure analysis.
• Provide technical guidance to maintenance personnel during equipment repairs, installations, and troubleshooting activities.
• Apply relevant API codes, engineering standards, maintenance procedures, and equipment best practices.
• Support Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements associated with mechanical equipment and maintenance activities.
• Maintain accurate equipment history, inspection findings, reliability information, and maintenance documentation within the CMMS.
• Utilize SAP and other maintenance systems to support equipment history, work management, reliability analysis, and maintenance planning.
• Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, and Engineering to resolve equipment problems and improve mechanical asset performance.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment reliability, maintenance effectiveness, safety, and plant performance.

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate Degree in Engineering, Mechanical Technology, or a related technical discipline preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of industrial mechanical maintenance and rotating equipment experience within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong consideration will be given to experienced journeyman mechanics, millwrights, machinists, and rotating equipment field service technicians with the appropriate technical background.
• Extensive hands-on experience with industrial rotating equipment, including pumps, compressors, and rotary blowers.
• Demonstrated experience with preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
• Experience with vibration analysis, infrared thermography, oil analysis, and other condition-monitoring technologies.
• Strong knowledge of precision lubrication and rotating equipment maintenance practices.
• Experience performing precision shaft alignment using laser alignment equipment and/or dial indicators.
• Proficiency with precision measuring tools, including micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
• Experience conducting or participating in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA).
• Working knowledge of applicable API codes and industry standards for rotating equipment.
• Experience working within chemical, petrochemical, refining, or other PSM-regulated industrial manufacturing environments strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM), industrial equipment requirements, and ISO systems and procedures.
• Ability to independently troubleshoot complex mechanical equipment problems, evaluate failure mechanisms, and develop practical corrective actions.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computerized maintenance management systems; SAP experience preferred.
• Six Sigma training or experience is a plus.
